and there was light.  But CenterPoint said you’ll have to wait till we find the blown fuse before you’re connected.
Sixteen days after Ike rolled through Houston, power was restored to my home.  Sweet!

It didn’t take 16 days for many places, many were powered up pretty quickly.  We were a lucky exception.  But still luckier than [...]

another birthday . . .

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Another birthday affected by a hurricane. Three years ago Rita made landfall on Ian’s birthday. We downsized our plans and celebrated sitting in the middle of Aunt Julie’s living room floor. This year, we’re home . . . but a tad out of sorts. He still got some great gifts though, [...]

my little refugee . . .

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I forgot I took this picture, it was on my cell phone. Emy’s sense of style has a certain je ne sais quoi. While waiting at Aunt Julie’s in Dallas, for things to calm down in Houston after Hurricane Ike, she decides to try on all of her clothes at the same time.

It [...]

since i can’t thank them directly . . .

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I’ll place a thank you on my blog, and hopefully at least a few will read it.  ;-)
Thanks for lending us your neighbors!  Seriously, from the bottom of my heart.  I know these people are getting paid to come down here and help put us back together.  But even so, they’ve volunteered to come down [...]

eleven days and counting . . .

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The power company told me I could expect power beyond September 22.  That’s not really an estimate of when they predict it will be back on, that’s just something they say when they have no idea.  LOL
We’re at 11 days now.
We haven’t been suffering from the heat though.  We were in Dallas in the A/C [...]

a summer of firsts . . .

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

My kids experienced some big firsts this summer. They rode a bike for the first time. They took swim lessons for the first time. They took a ride on an airplane for the first time. And, it seems, they are going to weather a hurricane for the first time.
Ike is coming, [...]
