time for coonfest . . .
By Lesle | February 18, 2009
Lori and I were talking about Coonfest today, and the subject of music came up. Now, I’m not a Zydeco connoisseur, but I am a big fan. And our conversation reminded me of when I got my first good listen on a visit, a couple decades past, to Tipitina’s.
What fantastic memories!
I love it too, that Emy couldn’t stand still when I played this song for her. LOL

it’s sunday . . .
By Lesle | February 15, 2009
I should be chillaxin’. But I’m not. Believe it or not, I did get up off my lazy butt and start working on unpacking the craft room/office. So far I’ve got three boxes unloaded . . . which only means that the doorway is no longer blocked. Progress.
So chillaxin may be my new favorite word. We’re big Disney fans in this house, and with Sonny with a Change finally making it’s debut, there is certain to be new catch phrases and characters to talk about.
Of course, Emy is the first to sucumb to the hype.
Emy: GET OUT OF MY SPOTLIGHT!
Which, you know, just made me laugh out loud.
Max: You don’t have a show Emy, that’s just on TV.
Emy: I do too.
Max: No you don’t Emy. You’re being silly.
Me: Max, she’s just playing make believe. It’s okay, you don’t have to set her straight when she’s playing make believe.
Emy: :whispers to Max: She’s just saying that because SHE wants to steal MY spotlight! She wants to be a pop star!
Me: Emy, if you can’t keep a grasp on reality, I’m going to have to take the TV away from you.
Emy: How will you do THAT? They are everywhere!
Me: Well, you won’t be able to watch them!
Emy: Okay Mommy.
In other news . . .
We brought Krycek home.

Jamie kept him a little over a week until we were able to get settled. He was an outside cat for over nine years, so I was a little worried that he wouldn’t take to being inside the apartment all the time, but he seems to be doing fine. I, on the other hand, am having to get used to having an animal (other than my children) inside with me on a regular basis. My nose is super sensitive and I’ve been sneezing quite a bit. I’m sure I’ll acclimate eventually.
So, I just wanted to blog a little before the day got away from me. Now I need to get back to unpacking.

one of those days . . .
By Lesle | February 10, 2009
it’s been blah from the get go.
I fell asleep last night without showering. Woke up this morning with just barely enough spare time to jump in the tub. Rushed through the necessary steps for a good hair day . . . which cannot be rushed. Consequently, my hair is everywhere today. Rushed through getting dressed, thank goodness I predominately wear dresses . . . it’s so easy to pull one over my head.
Ian decided he did NOT want to go to school, which caused me to threaten him with no PSP after school. Apparently, he was/is under the impression that he did not get enough sleep last night. I tried to convince him that he got plenty of sleep (he really did–he just THINKS he went to bed late). So we pull up to his school to drop him off and he decides to have a major meltdown.
I’m soooo glad his ABLE teacher was there to greet him, otherwise I would have been screwed because I still had the kids in the car with me. We were there for a good 10 minutes trying to calm him, I had to promise to come back after I registered Max and Emy at their new school.
Thirty minutes at the new school and then back to Ian’s. He had calmed down quite a bit and apologized for his behavior. One habit Asperger parents have to cultivate is the constant reiteration that you still love your child and want to be with them, regardless of their behavior. I gladly reassure Ian, whenever he needs to hear it, but it saddens me that he would even think I don’t want him because he has lost control, again.
I think I’m just cranky and tired from the move.
It always lifts my spirits to know I’m not alone though. I came across this site today, and it’s keeping me giggling.
Laughter really is the best medicine, and some of those people are far worse off than I am.

now i’m just being silly . . .
By Lesle | February 4, 2009
Silliness happens. I feel like a giddy school girl . . . but it’s still fun.
Years ago, I fell in love with ALL the songs from the movie Something’s Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. These days it seems the music is just the right soundtrack for my life.
Kinda sweet.

i’m moving . . .
By Lesle | February 4, 2009
not my blog . . . my home. Well, not my actual home, I’m not a nut like Lori. But yeah, we’re moving this week. From a house to an apartment. The kids are so excited to have a real pool.
So we’re excited but busy, packing and going through and purging. I’ve found a couple things to RAK already. Those will be in the mail this week. Yes they will. :-P
It was a real eye-opener packing up my scrapbooking supplies. I wasn’t packing non-stop, but it basically took me all weekend to pack my scrap room . . . and then I packed the rest of the house on Monday. :duh: No seriously, I had help with the rest of the house, thank goodness. Next move, I’m going to let the movers do their thing. They can pack a whole house in a few hours. They don’t get distracted by all the memories and minutia.
So it was a real eye-opener packing the scrap crap. My dad walked into the room and asked, “Is THIS a typical investment for scrapbookers?” My response, “Pops, you have no idea. There are plenty of women who have loads more than I do.” Which is pretty damn crazy when you think about it.
I’ve been collecting stuff since before Ian was born. We’re looking at 10 years of stuff. Unfortunately, some of it is that old. So I’m going to live by that old Crosby Stills and Nash song . . .
And if you can’t be with the one you love (Basic Grey), honey
Love the one you’re with (Doodlebug)
You see, it’s ALL about the patterned paper.
Do do do do do do do do, do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do, do do do, do do do
Yeah, so that’s it . . . I’m not ignoring the blogs . . . I just don’t have time at the moment. I’ve been taking pictures, so I’ll update my 365 photo blog as well. I’m looking forward to getting back up-to-date on my blog crawling too. When you get 15 comments from me in one day on your blog . . . you’ll know I’m back.

inspiration . . .
By Lesle | January 30, 2009
I was waiting on the bus a couple days ago . . . glancing up the street I saw the mural by Suzanne Sellers in the JP Morgan Chase Park and it gave me an idea.

I remembered my art history class from many years ago. For the class project, one of my classmates took a walk down Fannin Street taking photographs of all the different architecture. As I stood waiting for the bus, looking at the mural, I thought about all the really cool things I could take pictures of downtown.
Yeah . . . that’s probably not that novel of a thought, I’ll admit. But hey, normally, I’m dozing on the bus listening to my iPod . . . not glancing out the window at all the interesting sights we’re rolling past.
So, hopefully in the near future, I’ll take a trip to downtown on a Sunday and give my little point and shoot a workout.

good bye mr. breeze . . .
By Lesle | January 28, 2009
Another from one of my all time favorite bands is gone. Billy Powell really grabbed my attention with his solo in Skynyrd’s Call Me the Breeze.
For me, that song was about him . . . whenever I would hear it, or whenever I saw them in concert, he would sound like, and look like, he was having a fabulous time banging on them keys.
Ooooooooooooh Mr. Breeze.

it took me ten years . . .
By Lesle | January 28, 2009
to learn most of the extension numbers . . . and then they totally revamped the phone system.

We went from three digit extensions to four digit extensions. What a pain in the rear. Quite frankly, I can’t even remember my own extension sometimes. I have to look at it whenever I page someone.
“MISS PRISS, PLEASE CALL EXTENSION 4 . . . UHHH, 4 . . . 446. MISS PRISS, PLEASE CALL EXTENSION 4446!”
She never calls me back when I call her that.
Anyway, I totally stole this idea for a blog post from Lori. She’s complaining about someone not calling her back. I really don’t have that problem, because I don’t call a lot of people.
But I do have some issues with my new phone. First off, it sometimes fools you into thinking it’s a touch screen. It’s not, so for a while it had a lot of finger prints on the LCD. Can’t stand that. Second, it’s not intuitive. I programed the keys on the 2nd and 3rd pages when I first got it . . . but now I can’t remember how to change them. Argh. And C, the “super key” really isn’t all that. They should call it “redundant phonebook key”, ‘cuz that’s really all the dang thing does.
Other than that, I really like it, because . . . well, you know . . . it’s black with silver. But mostly black.
